Oberheim OB-8 for sale.
This unit came to us in very good working order, but we like our gear to be better than the rest, so we paid our tech for nearly 20 hours of work to give it a full no-expense-spared meticulous refurbishing and future-proofing to make it as good as it can possibly be. This work of course adds significant value to this item and should make it a lot more reliable overall than other examples out there. Here’s what was done to this unit:
Repairs performed:
-Replaced 4 imperfect front panel potentiometers with new ones
-Replaced LFO volume mod LED (the new one is brighter than the originals - see pic)
-Cleaned several tact switches with less than perfect performance
-Bad connection molex connector between upper and lower board so replaced receptacle
Value-added preventative work most other sellers don’t do that should greatly increase future reliability:
-Cleaned inside and out
-Removed and cleaned all rubber key contacts and circuit board contacts
-Replaced all power supply capacitors
-Replaced bridge diode power supply
-Replaced both power supply trimpots
-Replaced 2 power supply IC sockets
-Replaced all 4051 CMOS IC chips
-Replaced battery
-Reloaded patches
-Replaced molex connector terminals
-Replaced front panel section electrolytic capacitors
-Replaced all electrolytic capacitors in power line on voice board
-Replaced precision resistors on voice board with more precise ones for better auto-tuning
-Replaced all trimpots for VCO tuning
-Recalibrated all oscillators, filters, VCAs and envelope times (necessary after doing the above work)
-Replaced both wooden end pieces were new ones
-Performed multiple systematic tests to ensure perfect function and reliability. All tests passed with flying colors.
You’re unlikely to find a better example anywhere, and no, we will not price match with inferior junk being sold by other usually amateur but also professional sellers. You get what you pay for.

The OB8 was one of the most popular polysynths of the 80's and has been used by many artists. It's also an excellent source of sounds for modern music (techno, house, pop, whatever) and is a popular vintage synth. It's an extremely versatile synth, capable of producing a huge variety of sounds - from lush strings to fat, juicy basses, to smooth leads, stabs, brass, analog effects, etc. If we had to list our favorite analog polyphonic synths, this one would definitely be on top!
Here are some basic features:
-8 note polyphonic
-split and layer capability for 2 analog sounds at once
-2 VCOs per voice, includes oscillator sync
-modulation routing section
-2 pole / 4 pole filter select
-dual envelopes
-arpeggiator
-SWEET SOUND
-etc...
This video documents just part of one of the multiple systematic function tests we did on the vintage Oberheim OB-8 we just meticulously refurbished. This unit is now available for sale on our website. If it doesn't sell soon, we may list it for 12% more on another marketplace. Note: the wooden end pieces were replaced with new ones since filming this:
