This is one of our favorite synths of all time - it sounds and looks terrific.  The JP-8 is good for just about every type of sound you'd expect to get out of an analog polysynth - from warm strings to basses, to cheesy 80s synthbrass, crazy sound effects and more, if the JP8 can't do it, the others probably can't either.  And of course then there's the rainbow of colors. In our opinion, this JP-8 is a solid instrument- in sound and in build. It's got a more precise, controllable sound than something like a Memorymoog, and a better sound and feel than the Prophet 5, to us at least. You won't find any wood on this piece - Roland meant business and made this thing heavy duty metal. Our only complaint about it is it's quite heavy so carrying it for any distance can be a challenge - this is not the weakling's gigging instrument, that's for sure.  So back to the sound.... Don't take our word that this is the synth to get - just think about who used it throughout its history. Not only did our favorite synth musicians from the 80s use one or more JP8s, they're still in use today.
