For Sale Sequential Split-Eight Meticulously Refurbished
This particular example is NOT for sale, but we do get them from time to time. This one was originally owned by Claude S. of legendary synthpop band Anything Box. This instrument was used on the Recovered and Memories of The Fall albums. We're huge Anything Box fans and are thrilled to have it in our studio collection where Jay Wires will use it on future recordings, now that it's been refurbished. Buy merch and more on Anything Box's Bandcamp page.
Refurbishing took approximately 7 hours of skilled labor and included full disassembly and cleaning inside and out, cleaning of rubber switches, cleaning and lubricating all potentiometers, replacing the battery, cleaning the key contacts, removing and cleaning keys and knobs and replacing power supply capacitors. Due to the scarcity of potentiometers and relatively simple design, refurbishing this instrument was a much less time consuming and costly than restoring most of the more complicated vintage synths we deal in.
This synth is 8 voice polyphonic and can play 2 sounds at once in either split or layer modes. The synth architecture is relatively unimpressive and is similar to that of the Six-trak, but since its circuitry is based on CEM chips, it always sounds good, despite its simplicity. The chorus is subtle yet effective, unison mode is pretty huge, and the filter resonance is perfect.
We've been having great fun programming and layering patches while wondering whose idea it was to use the cringey college sports team font for the logo. LOL.
